Maine PASA wants to let all the voices of this workforce be heard - from the direct care workers
to their employers to the consumers who receive their care. Our Stories is a place where members
can tell their stories in their own voices. They represent the passion and dedication of the direct
care worker and emphasize the value of quality care.
Jocelyn Barrett is the author of Maine PASA's "Our Stories" series. Jocelyn has a degree in
Women's Studies and English from the University of Maine at Farmington. She has personal insights
into the role of direct support work from her own experience as a dietary aide and personal care
assistant, and also from growing up in a family supported by her mother's work as a CNA.
If you would like to submit a story of your own, please contact
